Immunity means the ability of an organism to resist and fight a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies with white blood cells. Having good immunity depends from person to person. Two people affected by the same infection will deal with it different ways. The person having good immunity system might not be affected as bad as the person having a weak immunity system.

Your first line of defence against any infection is your lifestyle. Today’s busy schedule and workload has led us to a very poor lifestyle compromising on almost everything except work. A healthy immune system can defeat invading pathogens and protect the body from all other environmental infections.

Here are some healthy ways to strengthen your immune system:

Sleep for 7-8 hours

Sleeping your way to a better immunity system. All the important functions in human body happens at the time of rest. A human body needs at least 7 hours of sleep regularly for hormones to work optimally and keep the body well balanced. Researches also show that sound sleep improves immune cells known as T cells. T cells are a type of immune cells that fights pathogens such as flu and infection.

Avoid excess carbohydrates and sugar

A lot of working professional today have developed a habit of quick fix. When it comes to eating pizzas and soft drinks and a dessert later has become their staple. Having a lot of sugar and carbohydrates has a very negative impact on your immune system. Research show consuming too much sugar can affect the cell in the immune system that targets bacteria. Sugar adversely affects the way your white blood cells attack the bacteria. It can also lead to other health problems like diabetes, blood pressure, excess weight etc

Exercise for at least 45 minutes for 5 days a week

Research shows exercising for at least 45 minutes a day helps in boosting immunity. Listen to your body and do not over-intensify the workouts. For best results, hire a personal trainer who can take care of your workout.

Stop smoking

It is a known fact that smoking affects lungs and kidneys to a huge extent, which should be a good enough reason to quit it. If that’s not all, elements of smoke create free radicals in the body that can damage the immune system.
