How to start your fitness journey

The first step is always the most difficult and most challenging but I am sure you will agree with me that exercise is one of the most healthiest and rewarding thing to do.

Someone who is walking into the gym for the first time and watching everybody do complex exercises can be a little intimidating and can put you off. This is one of the major reasons why we fail at our fitness journey.

If you are one of these you have come at the right place and the right time!!

Exercise for the first time can be very demotivating for the first time. You might feel exhausted very quickly and think to yourself this is not my cup of tea, but that is how everybody starts.

Here is a complete guide if you are new to fitness!

Set a goal

Know your why before how. Before thinking about how you are going to do it think about why you want to do it. This will give you a clear direction and right mindset to achieve your results faster. Make small goals and achieve them in specific timeframe.

Focus on learning the correct form and technique

“Every champion was once a beginner” or I would like to say someone who does the basics right comes out as a winner always and the basics to exercise is learning correct form and technique. Whether it is a body weight exercise or a heavy deadlift make sure you are executing it with perfect form and technique. This is immensely going to help you when you go the next level. It also keeps the injuries at bay.

Focus on overall fitness

All of us have one favorite form of exercise. Someone loves doing weights someone just loves running and some of us prefer breathing and yoga. Picking up an activity you like is great but for overall development of fitness you need to hit all the components of fitness. Schedule your workout in such a way that you can incorporate weight training, cardio, yoga and any sport you like to play.

Maintain a journal

Maintaining a journal is the most underrated thing you can do in your fitness journey. It is the best tool you will ever have. Maintaining a journal of your progress keeps you on track with your goals, gives you a reality check and helps in making necessary changes as and when required.

Don’t go overboard

The early excitement of starting something new can make you do things that might not be good in the long run. Don’t start doing something because someone with a better physique is doing it. Respect them, respect the level which you are at and take one step at a time.

Be curious

Be curious about learning more about fitness. Ask your coach, read good science backed articles, listen to podcasts.

Ask your coach why does he make you do some exercise more than the other and some completely not.
